NASCAR: Stenhouse to sub for Bayne in Coca-Cola 600

Fresh from his first-ever Nationwide Series victory last weekend, Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

will make his Sprint Cup debut in Sunday night's Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Stenhouse will replace Daytona 500 winner Trevor Bayne in the No. 21 Ford owned by Wood Brothers Racing.

Stenhouse, like Bayne, runs the full Nationwide schedule for Roush Fenway Racing. But the 20-year-old Bayne has been sidelined for more than a month with double vision, extreme fatigue and soreness along his left side. He hasn't raced since the Nationwide/Cup double-header weekend at Talladega Superspeedway April 23-24. He has spent much of May in hospitals for treatment of what might have been an adverse reaction to an insect bite.

On Sunday afternoon at Iowa Speedway near Newton, Stenhouse got his first Nationwide win in his 51st career start. Ironically, he finished just ahead of Roush Fenway Racing teammate Carl Edwards, who had won the Sprint All-Star race the night before in Charlotte.

Stenhouse's 51 career starts include one pole, last weekend's win in Iowa, four top-fives and nine top-10s. He is currently third in series points, one point behind Reed Sorenson and eight points behind leader Elliott Sadler. His win in Iowa was the first by a full-time Nationwide Series driver since Justin Allgaier won at Bristol, Tenn., in March 2010.
